Pavel Šimíček defines his artistic approach as “subconscious work with information consisting of diverse perceptions, associations and feelings”. What is most important for him while creating an artwork is the process itself of stabilizing the content and form to which he allows great latitude; “at a certain point, things decide for themselves where to go next, what composition will they create, which material will be used and which environment chosen”. Šimíček conceived a paraphrase of a ubiquitous and all-pervading never-ending line for the Showcase AXA Gallery. He used metal as the material and a sharply edged, dynamic form. He lets it escape from the defined space and thus arouses the feeling of the order gone awry, erratic and an imposed threat. He is combining distinct expression with technicist aesthetic and is thus transforming individual show windows into images-records of an unfolding chart. This work is a clear follow-up to the artist’s earlier wooden Histogram (2006) and acrystal Histogram-relief (2007). He also addresses transformation of an impersonalised scientific approach into an organic vegetative state (Saguaro - Carnegiea Gigantea, 2012).

In his current installation, Pavel Šimíček shows a vast range of possible ways to approach a line in space. Let’s mention e.g. Wassily Kandinsky who addresses straight-line edges in relation to constructivist tendencies in his book Point and Line to Plane. In his paper Creation in the Plastic Arts, František Kupka emphasizes that each formal moment during the creation of clusters of irregular lines should be justified by the meaning of the whole. A sharply edged line is also highly characteristic of Stanislav Zippe’s style who closely examined dematerialised level of work with fundamental elements of expression. He called his works of this kind from the 1970s “Constructions of light drawings”. Pavel Šimíček first used the form of a geometrized line in his object Cloud II (2011) in contrast to amorphous material. His current notion of ubiquitous all-pervading invisible elements can be traced back in his early works depicting the fractal phenomenon that makes us think about the dual concept of microcosm-macrocosm. In the Showcase AXA Gallery, Šimíček uses the line dynamics to strengthen the specific meaning of the space intended for fast walk through and peripheral perception of an instant.
