Michaela Maupicová
Skladby / Compositions
17.02.2018 - 11.05.2018

Michaela Maupicová showcases her latest works in Výklady AXA Gallery. They are defined by their distinctive raster, subtle metal colouring and the illusion of space which implies order, the impression of an enclosed surface and the expansion of space. Paintings are approached as an outcome of multilayer composition, plastic ‘modelling’, as a living field of structures and rhythms. The author has been exploring the structural possibilities of a painting surface for a long time. Her earlier emphasis on the sensory level of dynamic forms where the predominant colour is black has been progressively brightened and dematerialised. Maupicová’s former multidirectional geometric outlines have been replaced by the current vertically-horizontal orderliness, colours are not fully accentuated yet presented merely as a reflection, the impression of space is sometimes damped until it resembles some sort of blind emboss. Michaela Maupicová decided to use metal colours, a metal surface carrying the meaning of an enclosed area captured her attention. The lightness of colour layers also makes it possible to model the space and work with light. The clearly defined raster pattern underlines the distinctive vivacity of expression, while creating an impression of moving structures; an experiment is subtly indicated. The aesthetic level – the value of beauty – is intentionally accentuated. The author’s space modelling is associated with the conception of a painting surface as the record of a force field which is also a well-known approach of Václav Boštík in his paintings. Maupicová also approaches the expression of thorough compositional structures by Agnes Martin that materialize the awareness of perfection – still ‘mysterious and inaccessible’ for us (AM).
